GT pacer reveals why playing under MS Dhoni would be ‘fun’ in IPL 2027

Kulwant Khejroliya recently opened up about playing for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming Indian Premier League season. The left-arm fast bowler has no specific preference for any franchise, but he would enjoy the opportunity to play under legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni.

Khejroliya has had a journeyman IPL career, representing five different franchises since making his tournament debut. Chennai Super Kings will rebuild after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, when they finished eighth. MS Dhoni also missed the entire season after an injury kept him out.

Kulwant Khejroliya opens playing with MS Dhoni and CSK for IPL 2027

Speaking to Sports Yaari, Kulwant Khejroliya said that his main focus is on performing well in domestic cricket. The left-arm pacer added that he will give his best for whichever team picks him at the upcoming auction.

“There’s nothing like that. For me, it’s simply about playing cricket. I would want whichever team picks me, and whatever domestic performance I put in during the upcoming tournament, to be useful to that team. For me, it’s just about playing my cricket. There’s nothing like, ‘I want to play for this particular team.’”

Kulwant Khejroliya has played for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Gujarat Titans during his IPL career. Chennai Super Kings are the only franchise he has not represented, and he would like to play under MS Dhoni.

“Yes, whichever team I play for, I will make my contribution. Anyway, I have played with almost all the teams, except Chennai. So, if Mahi [MS Dhoni] bhai plays, then it would be fun to play under him,” Kulwant Khejroliya said.

Kulwant Khejroliya Has Seven Wickets in DPL 2026

Kulwant Khejroliya has played only nine IPL matches since making his debut in 2018, taking six wickets at an economy rate of 11.01. He featured for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 after joining the squad as an injury replacement for Prithvi Raj Yarra.

The pacer played only one match for Gujarat in the season, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1. He bowled two overs for 31 runs without taking a wicket as RCB’s batters attacked him on a good batting surface.

Khejroliya has enjoyed better form in the Delhi Premier League 2026. The West Delhi Lions pacer has taken seven wickets in four matches, including his best figures of 3/25. His economy rate of around 6.50 has also made him one of the team’s most reliable bowlers.

Chennai Super Kings Face Major Rebuild After IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings finished eighth in the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points and missed the playoffs. They started the season with three straight defeats and, despite a mid-season recovery, lost their final three league matches against Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans.

The season also marked the first time since the IPL began in 2008 that MS Dhoni did not play a single match for CSK. The veteran wicketkeeper missed the campaign after suffering a calf injury before the tournament.

MS Dhoni’s future with CSK remains uncertain, although CEO Kasi Viswanathan has said the franchise will accept his decision on whether he returns as a player, coach or mentor.
