Home Minister hails mothers as real ‘Toofan Warriors’

Terming mothers as the real ‘Toofan Warriors’ in the fight against drug abuse, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that while the police force possesses various modern technologies, it is the mothers who form the most powerful network to detect when children go astray.

He noted that no police force can scan and identify behavioral changes in children the way a mother can.

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating ‘Jwala 2026 – Women’s Conclave’, organized by the Kollam City Police at the Kollam Corporation Town Hall as part of the Kerala Police’s popular anti-narcotics campaign, ‘Operation Toofan’.
Pointing out that many crimes witnessed in society stem from substance abuse, he urged everyone to unite against this menace, calling it a grave social evil. He added that drug addiction is a severe threat tearing families and communities apart, making it essential to strengthen grassroots movements led by women to counter the crisis.
Speaking at the event, Women and Child Development Minister Bindu Krishna remarked that no other government initiative has ever been so widely embraced by the public and Operation Toofan has emerged as a massive success.

Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister P.C. Vishnunath and Deputy Speaker Shanimol Usman also spoke on the occasion.
At the event State Police Chief Rawada A. Chandrasekhar released the official poster of the campaign.

Ahead of the formal function, a massive anti-drug rally led by women was flagged off at 4 p.m. from the S.N. College gate to the Kollam Corporation Town Hall.

A music album, an AI video, and promotional videos created for the ‘Jwala 2026’ and ‘Operation Toofan’ campaigns were also screened. As part of the initiative, exemplary women fighting against the drug menace were honored with ‘Toofan Warrior’ badges.
