Devdutt Padikkal suffered an injury scare during the Ranji Trophy semifinal after hurting his hand while attempting a diving catch at gully. The incident occurred on the fifth ball of the 75th over. Abhay Negi drove a delivery from Prasidh Krishna, and Devdutt Padikkal got both hands to the ball but failed to hold on.
Padikkal appeared to injure his finger in the process and immediately walked off the field to receive treatment. Karnataka will be hoping the injury is not serious, as the setback could also be a concern for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with the IPL season approaching.
Notably, the left-handed batter did not come out to bat in Karnataka’s second innings. Shreyas Gopal came in at No. 3 but was dismissed for a duck, while Karun Nair batted at No. 4, the same position he occupied in the first innings.
Karnataka Tighten Grip for Ranji Trophy Final Spot
In reply to Karnataka’s monumental 736, Uttarakhand struggled badly with the bat and lost wickets at regular intervals. Vidyadhar Patil led Karnataka’s bowling effort by removing both openers cheaply and putting immediate pressure on the batting unit.
Lakshya Raichandani scored a fighting 55 off 174 balls, showing patience and resistance in difficult conditions. The biggest partnership of the innings came for the last wicket, where Janmejay Joshi and Aditya Rawat added 58 runs to delay the collapse.
Uttarakhand were eventually bowled out for 233. Patil finished with figures of 3/40, while Vyshak Vijaykumar also claimed 3/45. Karnataka then chose to bat again, tightening their grip on a place in the Ranji Trophy final.
Karnataka Extend Dominance as Jammu & Kashmir Seal Historic Ranji Trophy Final Spot
Karnataka decided to bat again instead of enforcing the follow-on, aiming to give their batters extra time in the middle ahead of the final. They made a small change at the top, with Kruthik Krishna promoted to open alongside Mayank Agarwal.
Kruthik Krishna was unbeaten on 17 at the lunch break, while Mayank Agarwal scored 21 before getting out, giving Uttarakhand an early wicket in the second innings. Shreyas Gopal was sent in at No. 3 as Karnataka reached 39/1, extending their overall lead to 542 runs.
Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir created history by qualifying for their maiden Ranji Trophy final. They defeated Bengal in their own conditions, sealing a landmark result for the side.
