Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off a stunning chase to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in Match 47 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, successfully hunting down a massive target of 229 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Batting first, LSG posted a formidable 228/5, courtesy of explosive knocks from Nicholas Pooran (63 off 21) and Mitchell Marsh (44 off 25). The duo powered LSG in the first half, while Aiden Markram (31*) and Himmat Singh (40*) ensured a strong finish. For MI, Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets, while Raghu Sharma claimed his maiden IPL scalp.
In response, MI came out all guns blazing. Ryan Rickelton led the charge with a sensational 83 off just 32 balls, smashing eight sixes and six fours. He was well supported by Rohit Sharma, who played a stellar knock of 84 off 44 deliveries, keeping MI firmly in control of the chase.
The duo stitched together a match-defining 143-run opening partnership, putting LSG on the back foot early. Although MI lost a few wickets in the middle overs, including Tilak Varma and skipper Suryakumar Yadav, the required rate was well within reach.
Naman Dhir (23*) and Will Jacks (10*) applied the finishing touches as MI chased down the target in just 18.4 overs, completing one of the most impressive run chases of the season.
For LSG, Manimaran Siddharth was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan chipped in with one each. However, their efforts weren’t enough as MI’s batting firepower proved too strong on the night.
