The Gujarat Titans (GT) secured an emphatic seven-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to book their place in the final of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The 2022 champions will now take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at their home ground in Ahmedabad on Sunday with eyes firmly set on their second championship.
Talking Points:
1. The ever-consistent Gujarat Titans
Ever since they were first inducted into the IPL in 2022, the Gujarat Titans have been thoroughly consistent and regularly find themselves in the latter stages of the tournament. The Ahmedabad-based franchise have reached their third IPL final in five seasons following an excellent batting display in New Chandigarh. They will now hope to double their trophy count come Sunday, May 31.
2. Shubman Gill loves batting against the Rajasthan Royals
Shubman Gill has scored the most runs against the Rajasthan Royals out of all other franchises in the IPL. Today, he once again proved he loves to bat against the team in pink by scoring an outstanding 104 off just 53 balls. He played some excellent cricketing shots filled with grace and style, showcasing that there is still room for class and finesse in T20 cricket.
3. IPL 2026 belongs to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
In his first full season in the IPL, Vaibhav Sooryavashi has already shown what people can expect in the coming years. The 15-year-old lit up the tournament by scoring 776 at a strike-rate of 237.30, whilst averaging almost 50. He scored one century this season and three scores in the 90s in his last four appearances. It is only a matter of time before we see him showcase his magic wearing the Indian jersey.
Who said what?
Riyan Parag, Rajasthan Royals captain:
“It was a par score; it was defendable. I felt after the heavy roller, it got better in the 2nd innings. In the first innings, the bowlers got some grip, and the slower ones did well. I thought 230 would have been a par score. A score around 240 would have been challenging, but we needed the openers early. It didn’t happen, which became tough for us. (On the season) To sum it up in one sentence, there were many positives. We weren’t supposed to qualify, given that many players were young and inexperienced, but many youngsters performed well and can only improve from here. (On Vaibhav Sooryavanshi) I can’t put it into words, there’s one way where you slog and score many runs. But he doesn’t slog, you could see his innings today – he calculates and plays his shots. I can’t say how, but hopefully he will go on to do well in his career, do well for the Rajasthan Royals and win us a second title.”
Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans captain and Player of the Match:
“There was some confusion there but happy to get the win. We complement each other well, we understand each other very well and when we communicate we know what bowler to take down. I don’t think I have seen anything, no one has seen anything like that in two matches in a row. It was all about I was in kind of in a zone, I was looking at the bolwers and see the ball, pick my spots to score the runs. That’s what happens when you are batting well. We got a total, and once we got off to a start, I wanted to finish the game. We are very fortunate to have very good bowlers, Sai Kishore didn’t even have a bowl today.”
