“Update: Lungisani Ngidi of Delhi Capitals hit his head on the ground while attempting to take a catch during his team’s match against Punjab Kings. He was shifted to the hospital in an ambulance as he complained of a headache and neck pain. Ngidi is stable and is due to be discharged shortly from the hospital,” the IPL posted on its social media.
PBKS creates history
Coming to the match, it was a high-scoring game as 265 runs were chased down by the Punjab Kings side as they recorded the highest ever chase in the IPL and all T20s history. Putting to bat first, DC scored 264/3 in their 20 overs with KL Rahul playing an unbeaten knock of 152 runs and broke multiple records.
However, the foundation for the 265-run chase was laid by the openers of the Kings with Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya scoring 128 runs inside 6 overs. Then it was a Shreyas Iyer masterclass of 71 runs, which helped them seal the game. PBKS broke their previous record of 262 run chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders in this game.
KL Rahul wins POTM despite loss
Rahul became the first India batter to score a 150+ score in the IPL. The wicket-keeper also brought the fastest century of his career in the tournament. He also became only the third batter to score 150+ runs in the rich cash league after Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum. Despite the loss, KL was the Player of the Match.
After winning the PTOM, KL Rahul said, “I was very pleased at the end of the first 20 overs. Something that I’ve been working on for a very long time behind the scenes… for now it was about doing well in the IPL. Just to step back a little back and see where the T20 game has gone.”
“But today’s demand is that the first six overs are the most important. I had to sit back and see where I was at. I stuck to being true to my game. In T20 cricket, that’s the mindset I’m in right now – that there’s no time to say later.”
