Chief Minister of Bihar Samrat Choudhary officially felicitated Team India star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan for his heroics in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Ishan was one of the main contributors behind the team’s success in the tournament. India claimed their third ICC T20I WC title.
There is no other team in the world that has claimed three titles since the inception of the format. The emergence of Ishan Kishan in the international circuit, ahead of the showcase tournament, is an inspirational story for many cricketers to date.
Ishan Kishan left his mark behind the historic feat
In the World Cup, the top order batter amassed 317 runs in nine innings at an average of 35.22 and a blistering strike rate of over 193. He is in good form in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) season as well for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The Bihar CM honors Ishan Kishan with a reward of ₹1 Crore from the State government on May 15 (Friday) at his residence. The award and the felicitation were the mark of the talented cricketer’s contribution to the national cricket team.

“Samrat Choudhary lauded Kishan’s contribution during the World Cup. He emphasized that the financial reward acknowledges Kishan’s consistency on the international stage. Chief Minister further wished the player continued success as he continues to represent the region,” news agency IANS reported.

“The member of the Indian cricket team who won the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the brilliant batsman, the pride of Bihar, Shri @ishankishan51 Ji, was honored by the state government with a cash prize of 1 crore rupees for his crucial contribution in winning the World Cup.”
“Best wishes for a successful cricket career. Keep illuminating the name of Bihar like this,” Samrat Choudhary wrote in a ‘X’ post, along with some photos of the special occasion.
Along with Ishan Kishan, his parents and some other cricketers from Bihar were also present at the Chief Minister’s residence to make the occasion more special. Sakib Hussain was in attendance as well, who has impressed with his pace bowling skills in IPL 2026 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
It is worth noting that after the 2026 T20 World Cup triumph, the IPL franchise appointed Ishan as their stand-in captain in this season’s IPL, when the designated skipper Pat Cummins was not with the team. In the absence of the Australian star, Ishan Kishan was the leader of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Ishan helped Jharkhand to win their maiden SMAT trophy
Under Ishan’s leadership, the Jharkhand state cricket team claimed their maiden yed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) title, defeating Haryana by 69 runs in the tournament final.
In the final, he played a spectacular innings of 101 runs off just 49 balls and guided the team to glory. After this achievement in domestic cricket, the BCCI selection committee picked Ishan Kishan again for the T20I format, and it worked effectively in favor of the national team.
