Jos Buttler Becomes T20 Cricket’s Highest Run-Scorer, Surpasses Kireon Pollard

Whenever T20 cricket is discussed, several destructive batters come to mind. Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and many other legends have dominated the shortest format over the years. However, among the current active cricketers, it is difficult to find a more consistent and impactful batter than Jos Buttler.

Buttler has now added another remarkable achievement to his career. He has become the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket history, moving past Kieron Pollard at the top of the all-time list.

At present, Buttler has scored 14,833 runs in 432 T20 innings at an average of around 35. He went past Pollard, who had finished with 14,803 runs in 663 innings.

The England star achieved the milestone while representing the Super Giants in The Hundred. He reached the landmark during the match against Welsh Fire, where he also captained the side in the absence of Aiden Markram.

Markram had returned home due to personal reasons after the team suffered three consecutive defeats in the tournament. Buttler took over the captaincy and made an immediate impact.

Not only did he become T20 cricket’s highest run-scorer, but he also played a match-winning innings of 51 runs from just 20 balls. His explosive knock helped Super Giants register their first victory after three straight losses.

After reaching the milestone, Buttler expressed his delight.

“It’s really cool to think you’ve got the most T20 runs out of anyone.”

He also admitted that he wished the record had come a little earlier.

“I was actually thinking it would have been even more special if I had broken the record against MI London. Kieron Pollard was sitting in the dugout during that game, and it would have been nice to achieve the milestone in front of him.”

Interestingly, Pollard still has a chance to reclaim the record. The gap between Buttler and Pollard is very small, and Pollard is expected to feature as a player in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League.

Alex Hales is also close to the top and will be playing in franchise cricket as well. That means the race to finish as T20 cricket’s highest run-scorer is far from over.

Highest Run-Scorers in T20 Cricket

  1. Jos Buttler – 14,833 runs
  2. Kieron Pollard – 14,803 runs
  3. Chris Gayle – 14,562 runs
  4. Alex Hales – 14,449 runs

One of the biggest talking points in Buttler’s career came after the 2026 T20 World Cup. He managed only 87 runs in eight innings, and many believed his international career was nearing its end.

Instead of giving up, Buttler worked on his game. He changed his approach in white-ball cricket, regained his confidence and gradually returned to form.

His recent performances have shown exactly why he remains one of the world’s best T20 batters. He played a brilliant century and a match-winning half-century against India, proving that class never disappears.

Speaking about his comeback, Buttler said that cricket can change very quickly.

“There are times when you feel completely out of form and people think you’re finished. But if you stay focused, work hard and keep believing in yourself, things can change within a few months.”

He added that he had only two choices after the difficult phase.

“I could either give up or rediscover myself with fresh energy and determination. I chose the second option, and that’s why I’ve been able to find my form again.”

Jos Buttler’s latest record is another reminder of his consistency and longevity in T20 cricket. While Pollard and Alex Hales are still in the race, Buttler has once again shown why he remains one of the finest white-ball batters of this generation.
