In a major political upset, United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate K. Neelakandan was elected to the Assembly from Uduma by a margin of 4,854 votes, reclaiming the seat for the Congress after 39 years. He defeated the LDF candidate and sitting MLA C.H. Kunhambu, who was contesting for the third term.
The victory marks the first Congress win in the constituency since K.P. Kunhikannan’s success in 1987, underscoring its political significance. Mr. Neelakandan maintained a clear lead from the initial rounds of counting and steadily widened his margin, never trailing at any stage.
