The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Vidhana Soudha police not to file final reports on their investigations into the alleged recruitment scams in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) before the jurisdictional courts without its prior permission.
Undertaking of CID
Meanwhile, the court also recorded the undertaking of the CID, which is investigating the allegations of illegalities in the KPSC recruitment process for the posts of veterinary officers, that it would not take any coercive action against candidates provisionally selected to the posts without the court’s prior permission.
Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the interim orders while hearing three separate petitions related to the alleged KPSC recruitment scams. In the first petition, MLA Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal and the All Karnataka State Students’ Association, Bengaluru, sought a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the KPSC’s recruitment process for Group A and B Gazetted Probationers and allegations against Shivashankar S. Sahukar, the suspended Chairperson.
The petitioners had also sought transfer of the FIR registered against Suma S. Sahukar, daughter of Mr. Sahukar, for allegedly submitting a caste certificate declaring a “false” family income while applying for recruitment to the post of Industrial Extension Officer, a Group C post.
Petition by aspirant
The second petition was filed by Manjunath, an aspirant for the post of veterinary officer, on whose complaint the Vidhana Soudha police had registered an FIR alleging large-scale fraud in the recruitment process. He has sought transfer of the probe from the CID to the CBI.
In the third petition, Kiran Gowda B.S., one of the candidates whose name figures in the provisional selection list for the post of veterinary officer, has challenged the FIR registered against him based on the complaint lodged by Mr. Manjunath.
Meanwhile, the Court directed the CID and the police to file their statements of objections to the pleas seeking transfer of the probes to the CBI, while adjourning further hearing on the petitions till August 20.
