A man was arrested for allegedly stealing valuables worth nearly ₹75 lakh from his grandmother’s residence, the Kadapa police said, adding that they have cracked the case within 48 hours after the complaint was filed.
According to the police, Kuppam Leelavathamma, a senior citizen residing at Vijayadurga Colony, complained that unknown persons had forcibly broken open the locks of her residence and stolen approximately 66 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept inside the house on July 30 at 6.30 a.m.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shelke Nachiketh Viswanath monitored the investigation and directed all concerned wings to launch an intensive investigation. Special teams, comprising the Kadapa Taluk Police, Cyber Crime Unit, fingerprint experts, and a dog squad, rushed to the scene.
Upon examining the CCTV footage collected from the apartment premises and surrounding areas, a suspicious individual was identified. When the footage was shown to the complainant, she identified him as her grandson, Kuppam Shankarnath.
The SP instructed the Cyber Crime team to conduct an extensive technical analysis of the accused’s movements. Based on the technical evidence, the special police team apprehended the accused near Alankhanpalli Bus Stop on Saturday.
The investigation revealed that the family of the accused had been involved in a prolonged property dispute with his grandmother. Due to these family differences, he conspired to commit the burglary. 664 grams of gold items and 700 grams of silver articles were recovered from his possession.
The SP congratulated the teams and all officers involved in the investigation for their coordinated efforts. He urged the citizens to resolve family disputes and personal differences strictly through legal channels. He warned of serious consequences if the law is taken into one’s own hands.
