The MI bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, has confirmed that Rohit Sharma has started to bat in the nets at Ahmedabad and is being closely observed by the head coach, Mahela Jayawardene, alongside the medical team.
The Mumbai Indians started off IPL 2026, ending their 13-year-long drought of a win in their first game of the TATA IPL. They defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders while chasing a massive 220-run total, and Rohit Sharma looked in comprehensive touch.
However, going into the next few games, the batter struggled and faced the toughest challenge while chasing another massive total against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma picked up an injury to his hamstring in that game and was retired hurt in the game where MI lost the game by 18 runs.
MI coach drops massive update on Rohit Sharma ahead of vital GT clash
Mumbai Indians’ batting unit faced a massive setback as Rohit Sharma was ruled out for the next two games following their defeat against RCB. Quinton de Kock replaced him in the XI and scored a century on his comeback game with the Mumbai Indians.
The Indian maestro has been practising in the nets for the MI team ahead of their clash against the Gujarat Titans. Their upcoming clash is against the in-form GT side, who have now won three matches in a row and would head to their home ground in a proud fashion.
Speaking of Rohit Sharma’s return, MI bowling coach Paras Mhambrey revealed, “Rohit is batting at the nets in Ahmedabad, and he continues to be evaluated by the medical team and Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach.”
Will Jacks is expected to join MI ahead of their clash at Ahmedabad
The Mumbai Indians have been eagerly waiting for the return of one of their key players this season. Will Jacks played for them last season as an off-spin bowling all-rounder, coming into bat lower down the order.
Playing in the same role, he scored many runs for England and picked crucial wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup. His return has been questionable despite no injury concerns reported involving the English all-rounder.
Kieron Pollard, the bowling coach of MI, has also confirmed his return to the squad ahead of the upcoming games. Jacks could strengthen their batting order further, also adding a spin option in the middle-overs.
“Will Jacks is expected to join the squad soon,” revealed Paras Mhambrey at the pre-match presser ahead of the game against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
Mumbai Indians hit the bottom of the IPL points table
After the Kolkata Knight Riders finally managed to clinch their first victory of the season against the Rajasthan Royals in their home game at the Eden Gardens, they now have three points from seven matches and are placed 9th on the points table.
Though MI has played two matches fewer than the Knights, they have managed just one win and are in 10th position with just 2 points. They have now lost four matches in a row, despite some close encounters. The bowling form has been a massive concern as they have failed to pick wickets across all phases of the game.
