S. Suresh Kumar, Rajajinagar MLA, has urged the police to take action against the repeated bursting of firecrackers late at night in residential areas of his constituency, stating that the practice is causing inconvenience to residents.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Division, Mr. Kumar said firecrackers were being burst regularly in the jurisdiction of two police stations in his constituency, particularly after 9 p.m., causing disturbance to the residents of those localities.
Is there a safer alternative to fireworks?
He said that bursting crackers during New Year, Eid and other religious or national festivals could be understood as part of the celebrations. However, the daily late-night bursting of firecrackers was causing considerable inconvenience to residents and should not be allowed, he said.
The MLA said he had already brought the issue to the attention of the police on several occasions. He specifically mentioned that he had conveyed his displeasure through WhatsApp to the police authorities three times, but the problem continued.
He urged the police to issue necessary directions to the station house officers and to take action against those repeatedly violating the restrictions on the use of firecrackers.
