ODI Series Star Earns T20I Call-Up for India vs West Indies Series

West Indies have strengthened their batting options ahead of the five-match T20I series against India by adding in-form wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo to their squad. Jangoo has been called up as cover for Jewel Andrew, who suffered a finger injury during the third ODI against India on October 3.

Andrew has not been ruled out of the T20I series yet and remains under the observation of the West Indies medical team. However, with the first T20I scheduled for October 6 in Lucknow, West Indies have brought Jangoo into the squad as cover.

The timing of Jangoo’s inclusion makes the move even more interesting. The 29-year-old was one of West Indies’ best batters in the recently concluded ODI series and consistently troubled the Indian bowling attack.

Amir Jangoo Was Brilliant Against India in ODI Series

Jangoo scored 239 runs in three matches at an outstanding average of 119.50, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer of the ODI series. His three scores were 58 not out, 114 and 67, giving him one century and two half-centuries in three innings.

His consistency was particularly impressive. Jangoo made an impact in every ODI and looked comfortable against India’s bowling attack, including the spinners.

His final innings could also have been much bigger. Jangoo was batting well on 67 in the third ODI before being run out. West Indies eventually chased down India’s 351 to win the match by five wickets.

Jangoo’s ODI performances were also part of a strong run of form across formats. Earlier in 2026, he registered a career-best 233 in Test cricket, while his ODI form against India has now earned him another opportunity around the T20I setup.

Jangoo’s Addition Could Strengthen West Indies’ Batting

Although Jangoo has been brought in as cover rather than as a confirmed replacement for Andrew, his current form gives West Indies another strong batting option.

Jangoo has already represented West Indies in T20I cricket. He has scored 163 runs from seven T20Is, with a highest score of 74 not out.

His ability to play spin could become particularly important on Indian pitches. After the way he handled India’s bowlers during the ODI series, the hosts will know that an in-form Jangoo could be dangerous if he gets an opportunity in the five-match T20I series.
