‘Blew a hole in engine room’: Donald Trump claims US seized Iranian vessel TOUSKA in Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump on Sunday claimed that the navy has forcibly seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA, after it allegedly attempted to bypass a naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social he wrote, “Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA… tried to get past our Naval Blockade, and it did not go well for them.”Trump said the ship was warned by a US Navy guided missile destroyer in the Gulf of Oman to stop, but it did not comply. “The US Navy Guided Missile Destroyer USS SPRUANCE intercepted the TOUSKA in the Gulf of Oman, and gave them fair warning to stop. The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room. Right now, U.S. Marines have custody of the vessel. The TOUSKA is under US Treasury Sanctions because of their prior history of illegal activity. We have full custody of the ship, and are seeing what’s on board!,” he further wrote. The announcement comes amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing efforts to revive talks between Washington and Tehran.Click here for live blog updatesEarlier, questions were raised over Trump’s statement that US negotiators would head to Pakistan on Monday for another round of talks with Iran. Meanwhile, Tehran has not confirmed participation in the next round of talks.

CENTCOM issues statement

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the forces operating in the Arabian Sea enforced naval blockade measures against the Iranian-flagged cargo vessel TOUSKA as it attempted to sail toward an Iranian port.According to CENTCOM, the USS Spruance intercepted the vessel as it transited the north Arabian Sea at 17 knots en route to Bandar Abbas, Iran. The US said repeated warnings were issued over a six-hour period, during which the vessel allegedly failed to comply with orders to stop.It added that “US Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit later boarded the non-compliant vessel, which remains in US custody.”CENTCOM said US forces acted in a “deliberate, professional, and proportional manner” and claimed that since the blockade began, 25 commercial vessels have been directed to turn around or return to Iranian ports.

‘US forced to retreat’: Iran counters Trump claim of ship seizure in Hormuz

Iranian state-linked media has reported that its forces foiled an alleged US attempt to seize an Iranian commercial vessel in the Sea of Oman, presenting a version that contrasts with claims made earlier by Trump.According to Al-Jazeera citing the semi-official Mehr news agency, “American terrorist forces deployed to the waters surrounding the Sea of Oman and opened fire on an Iranian merchant ship to force it to return to Iranian territorial waters”.It added, “with the timely presence and rapid response of the IRGC naval units in support of the Iranian ship, the Americans were forced to retreat and flee the area.”The report did not name the vessel involved.

TMC will get ‘maha-punishment’ from mothers and sisters: PM Modi

KOLKATA: PM Narendra Modi sharpened his attack on Trinamool Congress, declaring in rallies across Bengal that “mothers and sisters” would punish it for stymying the women’s reservation bill and urging voters to deliver “maha-punishment” to what he called “maha-jungleraj”, reports Rohit Khanna. Addressing four rallies in six hours Sunday — Bankura’s Barjora, Purulia, Jhargram and Midnapore — before the April 23 phase of the assembly polls, Modi accused TMC and Congress of “conspiring” against women. “Women’s welfare is Modi’s guarantee,” he said, alleging TMC is “maa virodhi (opposed to mothers)”.Trinamool has deceived Bengal’s daughters, who wanted 33% reservation to be implemented from 2029. Modi tried to implement that. If women join the legislature in large numbers, they will speak for their rights. TMC thinks woman MLAs from villages and districts will make them accountable for their misdeeds,” the prime minister said, adding the party “connived with Congress” to block amendments. A brief stop at a jhalmuri shop in Jhargram during the campaign leg drew attention online as BJP pushed for a last-mile voter connect. Modi outlined welfare promises, saying pregnant women would get Rs 21,000 and Rs 5,000 after childbirth, cervical cancer vaccination would be free, and medicines would be available at steep discounts through Jan Aushadhi outlets. Also Read | ‘Do you eat onions?’ PM Modi takes ‘jhalmuri break’ during Bengal poll campaign – watch He also spoke of an annual Rs 36,000 support for women, free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh and dialysis in govt hospitals. Modi accused Trinamool of seeking religion-based reservation. “Muslims are being brought within the ambit of reservation for other backward classes. This is against the Constitution,” he said. He also warned of “infiltration”, saying Bengal risked losing its identity. “Trinamool’s agenda is dangerous. It wants to establish a govt of infiltrators, which will protect religion and language of infiltrators,” he said. Targeting the party on tribal outreach, he alleged it is following the tactic employed by “Nehru to defeat Babasaheb Ambedkar”. The PM said: “BJP nominated the country’s first tribal woman President. Trinamool put up a candidate against her. They played a game to prevent a tribal woman from becoming President.” He alleged tribal districts lagged under Trinamool and land was being usurped by “syndicates”.

SA-W vs IND-W, 2nd T20I, Match Prediction: Who will today’s game between South Africa Women and India Women?

The stage is set for a high-stakes encounter at Kingsmead, Durban, as India Women look to bounce back after a narrow defeat in the series opener. South Africa Women currently lead the 5-match series 1-0, making this second fixture a ‘must-win’ for the visitors if they want to keep the momentum from their recent series win over Australia.

The series opener at Kingsmead proved to be a high-octane thriller, ultimately seeing South Africa Women seize a 1-0 lead with a clinical six-wicket victory secured with just five balls remaining. India’s innings was a tale of missed opportunities; despite a resilient 47 from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and an explosive 34-run cameo from Shafali Verma, their final total of 157/7 felt slightly under-par on a Durban surface that traditionally eases out under the lights. The visitors struggled to find the late-innings acceleration needed to put the game out of reach, leaving their bowlers with a narrow margin for error.

In response, the Proteas timed their chase to perfection, anchored by a classy 51 from captain Laura Wolvaardt. While the Indian bowlers kept things tight in the middle overs, Annerie Dercksen provided the decisive finishing fireworks, blasting an unbeaten 44 off 34 balls to guide her side home. On the bowling front, Ayabonga Khaka was the standout performer and the primary difference-maker for the hosts, dismantling the Indian top order to finish with exceptional figures of 3/16. For India, Shreyanka Patil was the lone bright spot in the attack, picking up 2/26 and keeping the contest alive until the final over.

Kingsmead Pitch Report

The surface at Kingsmead, Durban, for the 2nd T20I is expected to be a well-balanced deck that offers a fair contest between bat and ball. Traditionally known for its extra bounce and carry, the pitch will likely assist the pace bowlers in the initial Powerplay, rewarding those who hit the deck hard. As the game progresses, the surface tends to become slightly two-paced, making technical stroke-play essential for the batters. With this being an afternoon start, the dew factor will be minimal, allowing spinners to maintain a solid grip and find turn in the second innings. Since chasing can become tricky if the pitch slows down, the captain winning the toss might prefer to bat first and set a target around the 145–155 mark.

Rajasthan Royals’ message to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after golden duck revealed

Rajasthan Royals’ message to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after golden duck revealed

Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Kumar Sangakkara offered advice to 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The former Sri Lanka cricketer stated that the youngster should be allowed to experience failure without any unnecessary external pressure.

Sangakkara’s comments came after Sooryavanshi’s golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026. The opener has scored 200 runs in five matches at an average of 40.00 and a strike rate of 263.15. He will next be seen in action against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 19.

You’re Allowed to Fail – Kumar Sangakkara Shares Message to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has captured attention across the country with his fearless approach against top fast bowlers. Despite a recent golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kumar Sangakkara said that Sooryavanshi has the ability to read match situations well.

“My message to Vaibhav is simple: enjoy everything. Whether it’s 100 off 35 balls, 50 off 15, or a first-ball duck — you’re allowed to score runs, and you’re allowed to fail. It’s part and parcel of cricket,” Sangakkara said.

“Vaibhav is such an exciting young player. People talk about talent, but they should also understand the amount of work he puts in at the nets. He reads the game really well, anticipates situations, and plans against bowlers effectively,” he added.

He’ll Figure Things Out as He Goes Along – Kumar Sangakkara on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Kumar Sangakkara defended the failure, stating that low scores are a natural part of T20 cricket, especially for aggressive openers. He stated that such setbacks are expected in a high-risk format and should not be overanalyzed, backing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to grow through experience.

“The nature of opening in T20 cricket today is all-out attack. He’ll figure things out as he goes along. For a player like that, sometimes the less said, the better,” Sangakkara explained.

“I just want him to remain that 15-year-old kid who goes out and bats with a sense of wonder. That’s how he’ll truly progress. Low scores will happen to him and to everyone else, but I’m very happy to have Vaibhav with us,” he concluded.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Impresses Early but Faces Reality of Aggressive Approach

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi entered the tournament after a strong Under-19 World Cup, where he won the Player of the Tournament award. The teenager scored 52 off 17 balls against Chennai Super Kings. He also hit a six off Jasprit Bumrah on his first ball against Mumbai Indians.

Sooryavanshi attacked Josh Hazlewood of Royal Challengers Bengaluru with three boundaries and a six. However, his aggressive style carries risks, as Praful Hinge dismissed him for a golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Husain reduced Rajasthan Royals to 9/5 in three overs while defending 217. Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. They will face Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday after their first loss in five matches.

Shortly after coming across a social media post about a flight service between Lucknow and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Vaibhav Tripathi decided to fly with his mother, who had never travelled by air, to their hometown. It was meant to be a birthday gift — a gesture of gratitude for the years she spent doing odd jobs, including working as a farm labourer, to fund his education at an Industrial Training Institute.

“Now that I earn ₹25,000 a month, I thought of flying her to our home in Azamgarh on her birthday as, according to the social media post, fares were between ₹1,500 and ₹2,000 per person,” said the 32-year-old, who works as a refrigeration and air conditioner technician at a private firm in Lucknow.
