Pain physicians call for greater awareness of minimally invasive treatments for chronic pain

Around 40 pain physicians from across Hyderabad called for greater public awareness about chronic pain and the availability of minimally invasive treatment options that can help patients manage persistent pain and improve their quality of life. The call was made at an awareness meeting organised by the Telangana chapter of Society for the Study of Pain in Hyderabad as part of Pain Awareness Month observed in September.

Chronic pain, generally defined as pain that persists beyond the normal healing period or for more than three months, can affect the bones, muscles, nerves, tendons and ligaments. Sedentary lifestyles, prolonged desk work, stress and inadequate physical activity are among the factors contributing to the increasing burden of chronic pain. “Persistent pain can significantly affect mobility, productivity and mental well-being, besides placing a social and economic burden on patients and their families,” a physician said.
