A 16-year-old boy from Alanallur in Palakkad district, who slipped into brain stem death while he was being treated for traumatic injuries following a road traffic accident, has become the saviour of three lives in the State.
P.H. Aadil, son of Shahul Hameed and Shiny and a Class XI student of Vettathoor Higher Secondary School, had been seriously injured when the two-wheeler on which he was riding along with a friend collided with a car at Mannarmala near Perinthalmanna on August 21.
Though he was first admitted to Maulana hospital in Perinthalmanna first and later shifted to Aster MIMS at Kozhikode, he suffered brain stem death by 9.48 p.m. on August 23.
After his parents expressed their wish to donate his organs, Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (K-SOTTO) stepped in and coordinated with other hospitals to find suitable recipients and arrange organ harvesting and transportation.
Aadil’s liver went to a patient at Aster MIMS, and his kidneys were received by patients at Kozhikode Government Medical College and Baby Memorial Hospital, Kozhikode.
He is survived by his parents and two sisters.
