Since the Delhi Capitals (DC) gave away their star spinner Kuldeep Yadav to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to bring Rishabh Pant on board ahead of the IPL 2027 season, there is another possible trade rumor doing the rounds across social media platforms.
Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has dismissed the fact that DC will let their Indian finisher Asutosh Sharma go for Rahul Chahar, who was mostly unused in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League.
Ravichandran Ashwin raises doubts over a possible CSK-DC trade deal
Through his YouTube channel, R Ashwin opines that every trade deal comes with some logic. But, Rahul Chahar in place of Ashutosh Sharma will not make any sense from DC’s perspective. While CSK could get some benefits with Asutosh Sharma in their team, Rahul Chahar will not be helpful for DC, as Ashwin thinks.
“There should be some logic and fairness in a trade proposal. I understand CSK wants Ashutosh Sharma. And sure, DC didn’t use him properly. Who are you giving back in the trade for Ashutosh Sharma? Someone you yourself didn’t play in the 11 in Rahul Chahar,” Ravichandran Ashwin said in one of his YouTube videos.
Why should DC not allow Asutosh Sharma to go?
Delhi Capitals will need a spinner in place of Kuldeep Yadav, but will they accept Rahul Chahar in expense for Ashutosh Sharma? Ashwin has doubts. Ashwin points out that an Indian finisher like Asutosh Sharma is pretty rare, so he believes DC will not be so foolish as to accept Chahar in place of their designated finisher. Additionally, Delhi still has Indian spinners in the likes of Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel.
“A finisher is a prized possession, and it’s so hard to get a good one, especially an Indian finisher. Will DC be so foolish as to accept trading him for Rahul Chahar? Yes, DC needs a spinner because they traded away Kuldeep. But they still have Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel. How will trade for a Rahul Chahar, just to sit him on the bench, and give you a first 11 player in Ashutosh?” he expressed his doubts over the rumored trade deal ahead of the IPL 2027 season.
It’ll be one of the greatest heists: Ravichandran Ashwin
The proposed trade deal might sound less logical, but everything can happen behind the curtains ahead of a fresh season. So, Ravichandran Ashwin did not completely dismiss the possible deal. But he further emphasized that if a trade deal between CSK and DC takes place involving Deepak Chahar and Asutosh Sharma, it will be the greatest heists in the history of mankind and the Indian Premier League.
“If this trade does happen, it’ll be one of the greatest heists in the history of mankind and IPL. Even if DC looks for a wrist spinner to replace Kuldeep, why would they try to get one that warmed the bench almost entirely last season? Even if they want Chahar, they’ll try to get him in the auction,” the former CSK cricketer opined.
