Mumbai Indians (MI) have found themselves in serious trouble in the ongoing IPL 2026, and now one of their biggest strengths, Jasprit Bumrah, is becoming their weakness. Amidst his wicketless campaign, Wasim Jaffer has made a bold statement on Jasprit Bumrah.
In their last IPL 2026 match against the Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians had a strong total of 196 to defend at Wankhede Stadium. But things went completely wrong with the ball. PBKS chased the target down with 21 balls to spare, beating MI by seven wickets on April 16.

Bumrah also had a tough outing, giving away 41 runs in his four overs without taking a single wicket against PBKS. The most disappointing fact for the MI is that Bumrah is yet to take a single wicket this season even after playing five matches.
Shockingly, the fast bowler is leaking runs at an economy rate of 8.63. Reacting to Mumbai Indians’ star bowler’s struggle, former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has boldly claimed that Bumrah is not 100% fit and something is missing in his overall bowling in the ongoing IPL 2026.

Jaffer has also pointed out that Bumrah’s body language is not the same as before. The cricket pandit has pointed out that Bumrah was earlier used to look sharp, confident, and always in control, but now he lacks energy and rhythm in his bowling and is also missing his usual lengths, which is surprising to see in the bowler of his caliber.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel, “I feel that Jasprit Bumrah is not 100% fit, to be honest. This is my perception and my belief. When we are watching Bumrah bowl, the body language we are seeing is not the same as what we saw in the World Cup or even before that. So, I sometimes feel that he is not at his best.
Because Jasprit Bumrah does not usually miss his lengths like this, and he does not usually get hit like this. If he were 100% fit, I cannot imagine Jasprit Bumrah bowling like this and continuing like this. So, I feel that somewhere, he is not 100% fit.”
‘Just a rough patch’: Wasim Jaffer backs Jasprit Bumrah amid tough phase
However, Jaffer defended Bumrah by saying that even top players can have off days or difficult phases, and he is just going through a rough phase where things are just not going his way.
Jaffer added, “It feels like that zing in Bumrah’s bowling is missing. It seems like that ball, which used to come in quickly and hit the bat hard, is slightly lacking now. Form doesn’t always stay the same, and it’s not like Bumrah will bowl brilliantly every time or have a great spell in every match. Right now, it feels like he is going through a phase where things are not quite working.”
Now, all eyes will be on April 20, when Mumbai Indians will face Gujarat Titans in their next IPL 2026 match in Ahmedabad, and they will be hoping that Bumrah gets back to his best soon, as they really need him to perform to turn their season around.
