Reports: India tour of Bangladesh could be postponed once again

India‘s white-ball tour of Bangladesh, due to begin in early September 2026, is facing the prospect of yet another postponement. BCB president Tamim Iqbal indicated on Thursday, August 20 that the tour dates could be moved, casting fresh doubt over a series that has already been deferred once.

The fixture was first scheduled for August 2025 before being pushed back to September 2026. When the BCB made a formal announcement in January 2026, it confirmed a six-match programme comprising three ODIs and three T20Is split across Dhaka and Chattogram. Under that schedule, the ODIs are set for September 1, 3 and 6, 2026, with the T20Is following on September 9, 12 and 13, 2026. The BCCI, however, has not issued any public statement about the tour at any stage.

Tamim, who travelled to India earlier in August 2026 to see the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence facilities in Bengaluru, acknowledged that both boards are still working through the logistics, as per Cricinfo.

Two overlapping issues have put the September 2026 window under pressure. The BCB has announced the Game Development Trophy, an age-group competition with all fixtures at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, running from August 28 to September 9, 2026. That window cuts directly across the first four matches of the India series as currently scheduled.

“Both boards remain in discussion about the India series. The dates may be shifted here or there. This tournament is being held in Mirpur, but it can be shifted to the Basundhara ground in two minutes. If the India series is locked and fixed, we will schedule it accordingly,” Tamim said at the press conference ahead of the age-group competition.

What is causing the latest scheduling problem?

A separate conflict has also emerged involving India’s Afghanistan series, whose dates reportedly fall within the same September window. The Indian board’s continued silence has left the BCB managing the situation largely without a confirmed partner. Tamim’s comments suggest the BCB is prepared to relocate the domestic tournament to Basundhara if the India series is confirmed, but no such confirmation has come from New Delhi.

What is the background to this tour’s troubled history?

The current uncertainty is the second major disruption to the same fixture. The original August 2025 dates were deferred to September 2026, and the series is now at risk of being moved again before a single ball has been bowled.

Relations between the two boards have been complicated by events beyond the scheduling calendar. Kolkata Knight Riders withdrew Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL after the BCB’s January 2026 tour announcement. The BCB subsequently refused to send the Bangladesh team to the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India, adding a diplomatic dimension to what had been a routine bilateral series.

As of the current date, neither board has issued a joint statement confirming whether the tour will proceed on its current dates, be rescheduled or face cancellation. Whether revised dates can be agreed before the window closes remains an open question.
