Rohit Sharma made a massive statement last night at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The opener was in full motion against the bowling department of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). With a pair of firing openers at the top of the batting order, the Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated KKR through a well-controlled game plan.
After the match, multiple photos and videos of the star players have been circulating on social media. One of the videos, which is not so popular yet, captured a moment when Rohit Sharma looked annoyed with the umpire.
Why did Rohit Sharma get angry with the umpire?
To conduct a fair game, umpires and match officials maintain some protocols, including checking the measurements of a bat. Over the years, changes were made in the shape of bats as well. Unlike a flat back bat, nowadays, cricketers use bats with a deep swell. According to MCC regulations, a bat’s depth should not be more than 67 mm. During the matches, umpires use a gauge to measure the depth of the bats.

The umpire did the same on Sunday when the Mumbai Indians were up against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The video shows that Sharma looked annoyed when the umpire took too long to check his bat. From the gesture of Sharma, it was clear that he was unhappy with the umpire, as the bat was stuck in the gauge.

After making a few attempts, the bat finally came out of the bat, and Rohit headed into the ground after delivering some words to the umpire. It is unknown what the MI batter told the umpire, but it seems that the umpire might have enjoyed the moment as he smiled back at Rohit Sharma at the end of the video.

With the bat, what the ‘Hitman’ did on March 30, cricket fans know. He walked into the pitch and smashed 78 runs, facing 38 balls only. Maintaining a strike rate over 205, the opener hit six fours and as many maximums. For the opening wicket stand, the Mumbai Indians got 148 runs in 11.5 overs, thanks to Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.
Rickelton returned to the pavilion after scoring 81 runs in 43 deliveries. After the pair of whirlwind knocks, the Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL winners, achieved the target of 221 in 19.5 overs, with 6 more wickets in hand.
Mumbai Indians fans are looking for another Hitman show in Delhi
The Mumbai Indians will next face the Delhi Capitals on April 4 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In this match too, the MI fans will wish to see another full-flowing innings from the former captain. The win against KKR was historic for the Mumbai Indians, as after 12 years, they had started an Indian Premier League season with a win in their first match of the season.
