Sachin Tendulkar proposes massive T20 and IPL change; wants Impact Player rule scrapped

Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar has been part of a massive evolution of cricket across formats throughout his career; however, even the world’s greatest batsman is not satisfied with the overwhelming support for batters in the modern-day T20 game.

He has hence come up to suggest some reforms that could bring back the lost spirit of balance between batters and bowlers within the evolving standards of the game. T20 might be a batters’ game, but there should be fair grounds for bowlers to bounce back.

This season of the IPL 2026 marked a commanding season for the batters, but what was different from former seasons was that even the best of bowlers have been trashed mercilessly in this season of the competition.

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar wants to abolish ‘Impact Player’ rule from the IPL

The legendary Indian player is now a new addition to the list of former cricketers who have not favoured the “impact player” rule that has been introduced in the IPL over the past few seasons.

Tendulkar has shared that the impact player rule should not be a part of the IPL or any other T20 league for the betterment of the format and the balance between the batting and bowling sides.

Many former players had already pointed out that the impact player rule often leaves no room for betterment within modern cricketers. A player who fields poorly shows no room for rectification, and it similarly reduces the importance of all-rounders in the shortest format of the game.

Sachin backs aims to heighten the hype around bowlers in T20 matches

Sachin Tendulkar has aimed to provide equal opportunities for bowlers to shine in a match. It has often been noted that one or two bowlers sometimes have a pretty nice outing as compared to others in a match.

To favour such performances and bring the best out of bowlers, Sachin demands an additional over, that is, five overs to be bowled by at least one bowler in an innings. This would increase wicket-taking opportunities and add to the bowler’s morale.

Citing several match-winning situations, an additional over from one of the best bowlers in the team could help them under that scenario. Hence, bowlers’ prices would be as high as batters’ and all-rounders’ under those scenarios.

Two Powerplays: One for Batting and One for Bowling—Suggests the Little Master

The legendary cricketer understands the importance of equality and balance, and hence, Sachin Tendulkar has demanded that the powerplay should now be split into two halves in T20 matches.

With the powerplay restrictions being applied for four overs, which favors the batters, the bowlers should also be handed at least a two-over powerplay where they can have an additional fielder out on the boundary.

Such an arrangement would surely restore the belief within bowlers who often complain about the latest rules in cricket, which are mostly against them, like the modern-day wide ball techniques and the limited number of bouncers.
