Shivam Dube eyes CSK exit as franchise plans foreign head coach over MS Dhoni: Report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will head into the upcoming Indian Premier League 2027 (IPL 2027) with some massive changes. After another disappointing season earlier this year, CSK is getting ready for a fresh start, and Shivam Dube may not be part of it.

The Indian all-rounder is reportedly planning to leave Chennai Super Kings. Even the legendary wicketkeeper MS Dhoni’s future with the franchise is still not clear. Reports also suggest that CSK are looking at the option of bringing in a foreign head coach as they aim to return to their winning ways. Amid this, the latest verdict on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s future arrives.

Shivam Dube is ready to leave Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2027

As reported by Resportz journalist Rohit Juglan, Shivam Dube is looking to move on from Chennai Super Kings after feeling that he has not been used properly over the last few IPL seasons.

Even though Shivam Dube is an all-rounder, CSK barely used him with the ball over the last three seasons. The seamer bowled only nine overs and managed to take just two wickets across the last three IPL seasons for the five-time champions.

His batting numbers have also dropped. The tall and explosive batter Shivam Dube scored 396 runs in IPL 2024, followed by 357 runs in IPL 2025, and he finished with only 270 runs in IPL 2026. His role has been limited in the CSK camp over the years because of the Impact Player rule.

Because of this, Shivam Dube is now searching for a new team ahead of IPL 2027. There is no confirmation yet about which franchise he has approached, but the report claimed that he is expected to leave Chennai Super Kings before the IPL 2027 auction.

MS Dhoni’s role remains uncertain as CSK plans major coaching changes

MS Dhoni’s future with Chennai Super Kings is also still a big question. The former CSK captain is currently in England, and the reason is reportedly the Chennai franchise, but there is no official update on whether he will return for IPL 2027.

The journalist shared that there is no clarity on whether Dhoni could come back as a player, take up a player-cum-coach role, become only a coach, or decide not to be part of the team next season. So far, nothing has been confirmed yet.

He further claimed that CSK are considering appointing a foreign head coach to help the team start a new chapter after a few disappointing seasons. Reports say Dhoni no longer has the same control in the franchise as before.

The Chennai Super Kings team management is now said to be taking important decisions on its own, without needing Dhoni’s approval every time, showing that the team may be entering an entirely new phase. Amid this, Cameron Green faces an uncertain future at KKR amid Hardik Pandya trade buzz.

CSK’s golden era fades?

Chennai Super Kings have been one of the most successful teams in IPL history, winning five titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023 – all under Dhoni. They were also known for reaching the playoffs almost every season and setting the standard for consistency.

However, things have been tough for them after their 2023 title win. CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs in three straight seasons from 2024 to 2026, forcing the franchise to make changes.
