Shreyanka Patil stretchered off after twisting ankle during Netherlands clash

India allrounder Shreyanka Patil was stretchered off the field after she twisted her right ankle against Netherlands in Leeds on Wednesday. She bowled her first ball in the game, and injured herself after running towards mid-on to stop the ball. She looked in a lot of pain as she held her ankle and was eventually stretchered off the field and taken for scans.

It was the first ball of the sixth over when Netherlands batter Phebe Molkenboer clipped the ball to the leg side and Patil ran after it to stop the single. Just as she bent low to pick up the ball and turn, Patil twisted her right ankle and fell immediately. She was seen clutching her right ankle as the Indian team physiotherapist rushed out. Patil couldn’t put weight on her right leg when she tried to stand up with some help. She was eventually helped on to a stretcher and onto a cart to go off the field.

Shafali Verma completed the sixth over while Radha Yadav replaced Patil on the field.

Patil had been out of action for long periods in 2024 and 2025 due to multiple injuries. It started in July 2024 with a finger fracture on her left hand followed by shin splints in both legs and then a stress reaction in her wrist. She gained full fitness finally in September 2025 when she played for Barbados Royals in the Women’s CPL followed by the WPL for RCB earlier this year.

This was India’s second league game in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after their opening win against Pakistan in Birmingham. Their next two games are in Manchester, against South Africa on June 21 and Bangladesh on June 25. Their final league fixture will be against Australia on June 28 at Lord’s.
