Shubman Gill punished by IPL Governing Council after David Miller’s choke in DC vs GT clash

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill would be elated to win the first match for the team after consecutive losses in the season; however, the IPL Governing Council fined him for his team maintaining a slow over-rate in the match.

Gujarat Titans started off their IPL 2026 campaign with two consecutive losses in the first two games. They lost their opening game to the Punjab Kings and then failed to clinch a point against the Rajasthan Royals, despite being very close to their first win.

However, the Titans and their Coach Ashish Nehra are well aware of how to bounce back in the tournament. Prasidh Krishna held his nerve in a high-scoring thriller at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and bowled a final dot ball to David Miller, resulting in a 1-run victory for the Titans.

Shubman Gill penalized over slow-over rate in GT vs DC game

The Gujarat Titans once had a strong hold on the game and were right back at it after Mohammed Siraj dismissed KL Rahul, the set batter, for the score of 92. However, they slowly lost control and bowled many extras while David Miller smacked them to all parts of the ground.

This thrashing from Miller forced the skipper and the bowlers to rethink their strategies, which led to a delay in the innings. As a result of this, GT skipper Shubman Gill has been fined for keeping a slow-over rate.

“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the release explained.

The Final Over Theatrics from the DC vs GT clash

The Gujarat Titans managed to pull out a spectacular contest featuring three stunning half-centuries from skipper Shubman Gill, experienced batter Jos Buttler and all-rounder Washington Sundar. As a result of this, GT managed to put on a mammoth total of 210 runs.

As the Titans bowlers came in to defend the target, the Delhi Capitals owners started off with their first-ever fifty-run opening stand between KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka. Rahul went on to keep the team’s hopes alive with a stunning 92 off just 52 balls.

However, the dimmed chances in the match were actually reignited when David Miller started showcasing his finishing skills to the Titans pacers. Miller smacked all parts of the ground, scoring 41 off just 20 balls.

With a massive penultimate over of 23 runs, Krishna was left with the responsibility to defend 13 runs in the final over of play. Vipraj Nigam was dismissed following a boundary on the first ball. Miller got to strike on the fourth ball of the over and smashed a massive six.

They were just inches away from a massive win, and Krishna bowled to dot balls to win the game for the Gujarat Titans. While Miller stupidly denied taking a single of the penultimate ball, Krishna grabbed the opportunity and tricked him with a slower bouncer, hence winning the game by a run.
