Squad Declared for India vs West Indies series 2026

Anticipation is reaching a fever pitch as India and the West Indies prepare to lock horns in an eight-match white-ball series. A major driving force behind the heightened excitement is the chance to witness Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in the 50-over arena. With the Indian selectors having finalized their setup earlier, Cricket West Indies has now announced their touring party for the upcoming challenge.

Led by Shai Hope, the visitors enter the series with an intriguing mix of core regulars and rising domestic performers. However, the squad announcements have also sparked considerable debate regarding prominent absentees, most notably former captain Jason Holder.

Major Absentees in the West Indies ODI Squad

The primary talking point surrounding the West Indies ODI squad is the absence of seasoned all-rounder Jason Holder. The 34-year-old veteran has been rested for the tour, leaving a noticeable void in both lower-order batting depth and new-ball control. Against a star-studded Indian batting lineup, Holder’s vast international experience and tactical maturity will be sorely missed by the Caribbean side.

Dynamic middle-order batter Shimron Hetmyer has also been omitted from the ODI unit. The left-hander is taking an extended recovery break following a grueling domestic campaign and will only link up with the national team for the subsequent five-match T20I leg. On the bowling front, the selection committee has backed youth, with wrist-spinner Vitel Lawes earning an opportunity alongside lead spinner Gudakesh Motie.

Sensational CPL Campaigns Earn Recognition

The white-ball squads draw heavily from recent form in the Caribbean Premier League, where several players made emphatic statements. Shimron Hetmyer enjoyed a blistering run for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, finishing as their top run-scorer with 367 runs in 12 innings at an average of 45.87 and a sensational strike rate of 197.31. Hetmyer notched two magnificent hundreds during the tournament, underlining why his return for the T20Is will be eagerly awaited.

Another headline inclusion across the tour is opening batter Kamil Pooran, who secured his maiden international call-up in the T20I squad. While casual followers might confuse him with Nicholas Pooran, Kamil has carved out his own reputation as a late bloomer. Debuting for the national team at the age of 30 is rare, but his breakout season for the Saint Lucia Kings left selectors with little choice. Pooran racked up 273 runs in eight innings, striking at an explosive 159.64 while averaging 39.00.
