Four wins in four matches. Gujarat Titans (GT) continue their winning march by defeating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur. With two more points, they are now on 14 points and have made their case strong to make their way into the play-offs.
With Sai Sudharsan (55) and Shubman Gill (84) as the openers, GT got a smooth and solid start in the first innings. For the opening wicket stand of 118 runs, they got a solid foundation to create a massive total.
GT got a dominating win over RR
Against GT’s 229, RR never looked in a position to compete with the Gujarat bowling unit. Without their regular captain, Riyan Parag, the batting unit of the Rajasthan Royals could not sustain the wrath of the GT bowlers.
The pacer duo of Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada did not allow Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to dent their plans. Inside the powerplay, Rajasthan lost their crucial wickets of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashavi Jaiswal (stand-in captain for today’s match), and Simron Hetmyer.
Siraj and Rabada were a little bit expensive tonight, but they did their job, which was to take some key wickets. To chase a mammoth target of 230, the Royals needed a long-standing partnership in the middle, which they could not produce. In the mid-phase of the second innings, the experienced Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan showed his class.
In his 4-over spell, he took the wickets of Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Donovan Ferreira, and Shubham Dubey, only for an economy rate of 8.25. If Shubman Gill was the star performer in the first innings of the match, then in the second, it was Rashid Khan who never allowed the opposing batters to take a long flight.
Following the footsteps of Rashid Khan, Titans seamer Jason Holder did the rest of the job with the ball, taking three wickets in only 2.3 overs against 12 runs.
A record-breaking win for the Gujarat Titans
Against the home team RR, GT scored 229 runs batting first in Jaipur. In reply, RR managed to score only 152 runs and allowed Shubman Gill’s team to win the match by a massive 77-run margin. According to the stats, GT has just registered its biggest margins by runs. In 2023, they got a 62-run win against the Mumbai Indians, which was the biggest win by runs ahead of tonight’s game.

Yashasvi Jaiswal said, “I think we were just thinking to bowl in good areas and they were batting pretty well. So we were just thinking how we can cut down the boundaries or big shots. So I think it was pretty good from them. No, it’s cricket (talking about Archer being off the radar today). We all know that there are some days where you are in, there are some days where you cannot bowl how you want to.”
“But he’s been doing so well for us. So I think he’ll be coming back very strongly. No, I actually didn’t think that much (whether leaving out Burger was a tough decision). I had a simple plan, who is my bowler and who can give me some good overs in the powerplay.”
