President Donald Trump said he should have a say in choosing Iran’s next supreme leader, and fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon intensified Thursday as the U.S.-Israeli assault on Iran entered its sixth day. The House rejected a bipartisan measure intended to halt further U.S. military action in Iran. “Save your lives and evacuate your homes immediately,” Israeli forces warned residents across southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs on Thursday. The evacuation area included the dense neighborhood of Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the United States would “bitterly regret” sinking the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean. Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates reported fresh attacks, as Iran said it launched retaliatory strikes throughout the region, including against Kurdish forces in Iraq. Iran denied firing a missile toward Turkey a day after Turkey said NATO air defenses shot down an Iranian ballistic missile heading toward its airspace. Targeting Turkey, a NATO member, would be a major escalation in the conflict.
