Updated Standings, Orange Cap, Purple Cap After RCB vs SRH Match 1

It was a cracking match at the M. Chinnasamy Stadium. As it was expected, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (RCB vs SRH) turned out into another high-scoring encounter. On the previous few occasions, whenever these two teams faced each other, it was entertaining. Saturday’s IPL 2026 opener was not exceptional.

SRH, under the leadership of their stand-in captain Ishan Kishan, fought well from the beginning, but in the end, it was RCB who got the last laugh. Thanks to the brilliant bowling spell early in the match by Jacob Duffy, and Devdutt Padikkal for his stormy batting as an impact sub, and Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 69 off 38.

IPL 2026: RCB vs SRH Match Result

RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and decided to field first. Because of injury concerns, both of the teams had setbacks. For the match, Bengaluru did not have the service of their ace pacer Josh Hazelwood, and Hyderabad came to play the match without Pat Cummins. Hyderabad might have felt the absence of Cummins, but Bengaluru was brilliant with the inclusion of the New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy. In his debut match, the bowler took 3 scalps in his 4-over spell for an economy rate of 5.5.

The 97-run partnership between Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen pulled the team out of the slump. While Kishan scored 80 runs against 38 balls, Klaasen departed for 31 off 22. Klaasen’s wicket came with a lot of doubts and controversies. Later, Aniket Verma played an effective 43-run innings against 18 balls. RCB could have dismissed Verma early, but Virat Kohli surprisingly missed a catch. In 20 overs, SRH registered 201 runs against 9 wickets in 20 overs.

The target of over 200 was not easy to chase, especially after the quick fall of Phil Salt. Using Devdutt Padikkal as an impact sub for the number three position proved game changer when he accumulated 61 runs in 26 deliveries with seven 4s and four 4s. After Padikkal’s knock, RCB steadily progressed towards the target score. Virat Kohli remained not out for 69 runs, along with Tim David (16*). Skipper Rajat Patidar played a handy 31 off 12 as well to help the team to win the match.
