Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s rapid surge in the international scenario is nothing less than a remarkable feat. At the age of only 15, he got his maiden call-up to represent the national team for the T20Is as the youngest ever player to join the camp.
Sachin Tendulkar made his international cricket debut for India at the age of 16 years and 205 days, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the brink of doing so at 15 only.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has picked up the emerging talent for the upcoming away series against Ireland and England, as well as for the 2026 Asian Games. The selection brought enormous joy to the Sooryavanshi family. His father, Sanjeev Sooryavanshi, could not hide his emotions when he was asked about his son’s emergence.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi recorded a stellar IPL season in 2026
Since making his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 season, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has continued to climb the ladder. The 2026 season of the league turned out as an exhibition of the Bihar-born’s hitting skills. Arguably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is currently the cleanest striker of the ball in the Twenty20 format across the globe.
During the IPL 2026 campaign, the Rajasthan Royals opener amassed 776 runs in 16 matches at a staggering strike rate of 237.31 and concluded the season as the highest run scorer in the league. Along with the Orange Cap, the southpaw claimed several other individual awards as well.
Vaibhav’s father shares a couple of memorable incidents
While talking with RevSportz, Sanjeev mentioned that there are a couple of incidents that are the most memorable to him. One is when his son announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League by smashing a six in the very first ball he faced, and the other instance is when Vaibhav registered a century in a BCCI tournament.
“There are actually two memorable moments. The first was when he played his first IPL match and hit a six off the very first ball he faced. I was overjoyed. He scored around 34 or 35 runs in that innings, and I felt proud that my son had made it to the IPL. The second memorable moment was when he scored a century in a BCCI tournament. That was truly special for me,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s father said.
Sanjeev asks his son to stay humble
Amid the feel-good atmosphere, Sanjeev advises his son to never lose focus and stay humble, as he will have to travel a long way from now on. “Now that he has been selected for the senior team, he must continue to work very hard. That is the most important thing. Secondly, he should always remain humble and keep his feet firmly on the ground.”
“He must stay focused, work hard, score plenty of runs, and help India win matches. Every run he scores should contribute to the country’s success. That is what I want from him,” Sanjeev Sooryavanshi added further in his brief.
