Virat Kohli gives fiery send-off to Gujarat Titans and team India captain Shubman Gill during GT vs RCB clash

In match no.42 between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Virat Kohli gave a fiery send-off to his team India captain Shubman Gill after taking a sharp catch at cover region. Gill tried to play an upish drive to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and did not get the elevation needed, providing a simple catch to the former India captain.

The incident occurred during the final ball of the fifth over, as Virat Kohli slammed the ball on the ground and expressed his aggressive celebration on the field. With the catch, Shubman Gill was dismissed after playing a fiery knock of 43 runs off 18 balls, and put GT in a good position while chasing 156 runs.

Virat Kohli engaged in a heated moment

Virat Kohli, on the night, was previously seen arguing with the fourth umpire during the first innings when RCB captain Rajat Patidar was given out as Jason Holder took a controversial catch, as the ball was touching the ground while he completed the catch, and it was given out.

Virat and head coach Andy Flower soon went up to the fourth umpire, and both looked animated and were having a chat after the fall of the wicket. The decision will surely be one of the most controversial moments, as in IPL 2026, there have been umpiring blunders in the previous games.

Virat Kohli creates new record

The 37-year-old played a good knock of 28 off 13 deliveries, looked in good touch, but could not convert his start to another big score. He was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, whom the RCB batter smacked five consecutive fours in the very first over of the pacer.

Kohli etched his name in the history books yet again. On Thursday, he became the first player in the world to score 8000 IPL runs in India. Kohli, who is playing his 232nd IPL match, achieved the milestone by hitting Rabada for a four on the third ball of the second over of RCB’s innings. Previously, he became the first batter to score 9,000 IPL runs.

GT bowls out RCB

Coming to the match, the Titans invited RCB to bat first. They lost Jacob Bethell early, but then Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal stitched a partnership. However, there was a flurry of wickets in the middle overs as they lost four wickets for just 18 runs. Then, some runs towards the back from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer, 15 and 12 runs respectively, helped RCB score 155/10.

Arshad Khan was the pick of the bowlers, as he picked 22/3 and bowled well, with Holder and Rashid Khan picking two wickets each. While chasing, GT lost Sai Sudharsan, who went back early. After the wicket of Gill, the Titans kept on losing wickets, and RCB came back into the chase with the score now being 122/5. If GT loses, RCB will surely be keeping one hand in the playoffs.
