Why Riyan Parag is not playing today’s IPL match vs GT?

Table of Contents

A major blow for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as their skipper, Riyan Parag, is out of tonight’s match against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Yashasvi Jaiswal informed that Praga is not a part of their playing combination for tonight’s game at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

In place of the regular skipper Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing the match as the stand-in skipper for the Rajasthan Royals.

Why is Riyan Parag not playing vs the Gujarat Titans tonight?

Jaiswal informed that Parag has developed an issue with his hamstring. In place of Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan Royals team management has picked up Shimron Hetmyer to take on the Gujarat Titans.

“We are going to bowl first. I think the wicket is pretty good and we want to chase it. Riyan pulled his hamstring in the last game, so I feel he’ll be coming back soon. Shimron Hetmyer comes in, and Yash Raj Punja comes in. That’s the two guys who have been coming in. I’m really excited, looking forward to the game,” Yashasvi Jaiswal informed at the toss.

Riyan Parag’s absence is a major blow to the Rajasthan Royals

Ahead of the match, RR was one step ahead of GT in the points table because of the Net Run Rate. Rajasthan Royals are currently at the 4th spot in the points table with 12 points from 10 games, with a net run rate of +0.510.

Despite some brilliant batting efforts made by some of their individuals, they lost three times in the last 5 games. On the other side, the Gujarat Titans are ranked 5th with the same number of points against as many matches, but with a net run rate of -0.147. However, before facing RR in Jaipur, GT was on a three-match winning streak.

Despite a controversial incident during a live match, as Riyan Parag was caught vaping inside the dressing room, he remains an important piece for the team, not only because of his leadership qualities, but also for his batting skills. As a middle-order batter, the 24-year-old has scored 207 runs from 10 matches and 10 innings with a strike rate of 143.75, including a highest score of 90.

As Yashavi Jaiswal informed, Riyan Parag is not playing against the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans because of a hamstring injury, but it is not clear when or how he sustained the issue. Along with Parag, South Africa fast bowler Nandre Burger also misses out. In place of the pacer, the RR team management names leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi as the replacement.
