A road accident on the Thrissur- Kuttippuram State Highway at Kechery claimed the life of one person and left another critically injured on Friday amid heavy rain.
The dead has been identified as Nidhin, 35, a native of Aanakkallu. The accident occurred when a lorry returning to Thrissur after unloading poultry in Kunnamkulam collided head-on with a pickup van that was transporting firewood from Thrissur towards Kunnamkulam.
According to reports, both vehicles rammed each other in the heavy rain. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving both vehicles wrecked. Nidhin died on the spot, while another sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital. Seven others injured in the accident are also undergoing treatment.
In a separate accident, 15 people were injured after two private buses collided at Vettukad Asharippadi, near Choondal. The buses involved were operating on the Thrissur–Kunnamkulam route. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and their condition is reported to be stable.
