Former Indian Cricketers Support Imran Khan’s Medical Care and Dignity Appeal

The former India captain Sourav Ganguly expressed his concern about Imran Khan’s health problems when he said that he wants the former Pakistan cricket team captain and Prime Minister to receive appropriate medical treatment and the honor that he should receive. The public has received important details about Imran Khan’s medical condition which included information that he experienced partial vision loss. The Government of Pakistan should provide superior medical care and improved living conditions to former Pakistan cricket team captain and former Prime Minister Imran Khan according to a report which cites an appeal made by Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev who joined together with 14 other former international cricket team captains to make this request.

The captains submitted their request to the 1992 World Cup-winning captain who has remained in prison since 2023 for medical and legal help and humanitarian assistance. The appeal expressed disappointment in the Pakistani government lack of progress at the requested issues which were presented by some of the greatest players ever to establish pressure on the government to show its response.

According to Cricbuzz, in an appeal filed, the former captains asked officials “ensure that Imran Khan is given ‘immediate, adequate and ongoing medical attention from qualified specialists of his choosing to address his reported health ailments,”’ criticized ‘humane and dignified conditions of detention in line with international standards, including regular visits by close family members,”’ and allow ‘fair and transparent access to legal processes without undue delay or hindrance.”’

It stated: ‘We have been alarmed by the recent reports about his health – including the deterioration of his vision while in custody – and conditions surrounding his imprisonment over the last two and a half years.

Highlighting the values that bind the cricketing fraternity, the signatories wrote, “As fellow cricketers who understand the values of fair play, honour and respect that transcend the boundary rope, we believe that a person of Imran Khan’s stature deserves to be treated with the dignity and basic human consideration befitting a former national leader and a global sporting icon”.

The appeal highlighted Imran Khan’s enduring legacy, stating: “Imran Khan’s contributions to the game are universally admired, and as a captain, he led Pakistan to their 1992 Cricket World Cup victory, exemplifying skill, resilience, leadership and sportsmanship that transcended borders and inspired generations.

Political career of the captains was honoured beyond cricket. “Beyond cricket, Imran Khan is the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, having led his nation through difficult times, and irrespective of political views, the man can claim the honour of having risen to the top political office in his country through democratic elections,” the statement added.
