Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh is all set to start his coaching career officially. If things go according to plan, then the former World Cup-winning all-rounder will be seen in the Delhi Capitals (DC) dugout in the next season’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to an exclusive report of The Times of India, after Ashish Nehra, Virender Sehwag, and Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh is going to start his coaching stint in the league. He is expected to join the coaching team in a support role.
Yuvraj Singh is all set to join Delhi Capitals as a coach ahead of IPL 2027
However, the exact post for Yuvraj is yet to be revealed. “TimesofIndia.com has learnt that Sourav Ganguly, who is expected to lead the franchise’s support setup when JSW Group returns to take control for the next two years, will have his former teammate in the dugout,” the report has claimed on June 19.
It is understandable why the franchise wants to take Yuvraj Singh on board for the upcoming season. In the recent past, the former batting all-rounder helped batters like Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant. He has grown a reputation for guiding the emerging batters.
“Who wouldn’t want a Yuvraj Singh in the dugout? Many of his former teammates, including Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, and Virender Sehwag, have had coaching stints in the IPL. Yuvraj may be a little late to the party, but he has spent considerable time working with youngsters and understanding the demands of the role,” a source close to the development informed the media house.
How can Yuvraj Singh help the Delhi Capitals?
The IPL 2026 carried a lot of ups and downs for the Delhi Capitals. Apart from KL Rahul’s stand-out performance, most of the batters of the team struggled to score runs consistently.
The body language of the players also raised questions, mostly when they went under pressure situations. They lost multiple closely contested matches as well, which ultimately affected their qualification chances to book a spot in the play-offs. In two consecutive seasons, the Capitals went close but failed to put themselves into the next phase of the competition.
Yuvraj Singh’s inclusion will be helpful for the team for grooming the batters, as there are multiple emerging talents like Sameer Rizvi, Ashutosh Sharma, and Tristan Stubbs. The former cricketer will not only help them in batting, but also can be helpful to boost their mindset. It will be interesting to see for which role the franchise appoints the former cricketer.
Kuldeep Yadav is likely to join the Lucknow Super Giants
In a separate development, it has been learnt that Kuldeep Yadav, DC’s one of the most dependable spinners, is all set to leave the team ahead of the IPL 2027 season.
If the reports are to be believed, then Kuldeep could join the Lucknow Super Giants. Additionally, there are talks around the future of Axar Patel as well, the skipper of the Delhi Capitals.
