At least 527 people have been rescued from the flood-hit areas in Madhya Pradesh so far, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Tuesday (August 11, 2026), even as incessant rain continues to lash several districts of the State for the past three days.
Mr. Yadav visited the Home Guard headquarters in Bhopal and reviewed the situation virtually from the State Disaster Management Situation Room, and issued directions to officials.
“Although there is El Niño effect and there has been 15% less rainfall [than normal], but still the areas that are receiving heavy rains and where people and farmers in rural areas with cattle, rescue teams have been deployed there and 527 people have been saved so far. Yesterday [Monday] in Khandwa, seven Kanwar yatri were rescued after they got stuck due to sudden rise in water level,” Mr. Yadav said, speaking to reporters.
Among the worst affected districts are Rajgarh, Shivpuri, Raisen, Bhopal, Sehore, Ujjain, Mandla and Mauganj.
The Chief Minister said that rescue efforts were being conduced even in nights while food arrangements are also being made for people stuck at homes.
Heavy downpour in several districts across Madhya Pradesh since Saturday has prompted the authorities to launch rescue efforts by deploying teams of the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF), Home Guard and local police.
Mr. Yadav also spoke with affected people and personnel involved in rescue efforts through video conferencing.
“I have told [the officials] to ensure coordination from State-level between neighbouring districts where rescue operation is required at multiple places and even deploy air ambulances if required,” Mr. Yadav said, urging people in areas close to water bodies to exercise caution.
Earlier on Monday (August 10, 2026), nine people lost their lives in Rajgarh districts’s Sarangpur area after a van they were travelling got swept away while trying to cross a bridge on a swollen drain.
Mr. Yadav expressed regret over the incident and said that the area had received nine inches of water fall on Sunday night. He urged people to avoid travelling in risky areas.
