Rohit Sharma has begun his training ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The former India skipper is all set to represent the Mumbai Indians again in the tournament. A video of Rohit Sharma’s training session has gone viral on social media platforms.

The 38-year-old has begun his training with the Mumbai Indians staff ahead of a fresh season. The upcoming Indian Premier League is expected to start in the last week of March. So, the batter will get plenty of time to be prepared for the campaign.

Sharma last appeared in a competitive match during the 3-match ODI series between India and New Zealand. As the opener retired from T20Is and Tests, he can spend his free time in his hand. Instead of lazy moments, the veteran cricketer chose to work on fitness.

Rohit Sharma started to work on his fitness after retiring from Test cricket. Accompanied by his close friend Abhishek Nayar, the Mumbaikar visibly lost a significant amount of weight with the aim to prolong professional cricket career. During his international tenure as captain, the batter was often criticised for his fitness by the cricket fans.

Rohit Sharma can play the upcoming ODI World Cup

It is widely believed that ‘Hitman’ has the desire to play the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, which he did not win as the captain of Team India. Ahead of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, when India faced New Zealand for an ODI series followed by a 5-match contest, Rohit looked lean and very fit. According to reports, he has been maintaining a strict diet to remain fit and active, mentally and physically.

A few days ago, it was reported that Rohit Sharma communicated with the Mumbai Indians franchise with the message to utilise him as a full-time player in the IPL 2026. In the previous season (IPL 2025), the franchise, under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, used Sharma as an impact player.

‘Hitman’ played some sensational knocks for India in the recent past

Ahead of IPL 2026, it is believed that Sharma urged the team management to allow him to take fields as well, so that he can contribute as a regular player.

Since taking retirements from Tests and T20Is, Rohit played some mind-blowing knocks for Team India in the One-Day International format. Last year, against Australia, the right-handed batter registered an unbeaten 121-run knock after securing a half-century in the previous game.

Against South Africa, he added a couple of fifty-plus innings to his track record. For Mumbai, during a limited-over domestic match, Sharma smashed 155 against Sikkim. Mumbai Indians fans will hope to see ‘Hitman’s fiery form again in an IPL season.
