P-Cure Ltd., an Israeli medical technology company, and ARISTION Proton Center Private Limited, a Bengaluru-based healthcare infrastructure firm focused on advanced oncology and precision medicine, have entered into an agreement to build a network of compact proton therapy centres and dedicated proton therapy infrastructure across India at an investment ₹1,900 crore.
ARISTION Proton Center will deploy P-Cure’s compact, synchrotron-based proton therapy systems in India. The first such centre, a 660-bed quaternary campus built around integrated artificial intelligence and augmented care solutions, will come up Sentient Health City, at Jakkur, followed by similar centres in Kochi and in other cities, said the companies.
The companies said that proton therapy is a non-invasive type of radiation treatment that uses a beam of positively charged particles called protons to destroy cancer cells. Protons travel a precise distance and release a burst of energy right at the tumor site, unlike in the case of conventional radiation which passes all the way through the body and damages healthy tissue as well.
Lohith G. Reddy, CMD and radiation oncologist, ARISTION Proton Center, said, “India already delivers world-class medical care, but what has been missing is proton and ion precision treatment at the scale a nation of 1.4 billion deserves. P-Cure’s compact system gives us the economics to build not one showpiece facility but a national network, delivering the world’s most advanced radiation therapy at a cost structure Indian patients can actually access.’’
P-Cure CEO Michael Marash said, “India represents one of the most important growth frontiers for proton therapy, and this agreement is a milestone for P-Cure as we bring our technology to the country for the first time.’’
