Bihar CM bats for coordination between centre and State to curb infiltration in border areas of Nepal

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday (September 26, 2026) said that the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Bihar Police, and central agencies should work in coordination to bolster security along the India-Nepal border.

Mr. Choudhary said this during a high-level review meeting regarding various issues concerning the India-Nepal border. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary were also present in the meeting.

Detailed presentations were made on border security, border management, law and order in border areas, and the prevention of illegal activities.

During the review meeting, Mr. Choudhary said that the security of India is a top responsibility and, given the sensitivity of the India-Nepal border, security and management systems should be continuously strengthened.

“The SSB, Bihar Police, and central agencies must work in coordination to ensure effective control over any form of illegal activity in the border region,”Mr. Choudhary said.

He directed that special vigilance be maintained against infiltration, the use of forged documents, counterfeit currency, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities in the border areas.

“Ensure the availability of machines for detecting counterfeit currency in banks located in border areas, and take appropriate action against suspicious financial transactions as well as fake or dubious bank accounts. Ensure effective action against drug trafficking to curb the movement of narcotics across the border,”Mr. Choudhary said.

The Chief Minister directed that regular monthly coordination meetings should be held between the District Magistrates and police officials of border districts and central security and investigative agencies. He also instructed to identify unregistered religious sites in border areas and take necessary action in accordance with prevailing laws. Bihar CM ordered that better educational facilities in border areas should be made available. 

Mr. Choudhary asserted that to ensure effective border security, all concerned agencies must work with vigilance, information sharing, and coordinated action. He added that while strengthening the intelligence network in sensitive areas, ensure prompt and lawful action against any suspicious activity.

District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from border districts also joined the meeting through video conferencing.
