Activists mark Bhagat Singh’s anniversary with call to oppose data centres in Visakhapatnam

Green Visakha, an environmental NGO, paid tributes to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary and called for a continued campaign against the data centre projects in the city.

At a programme held on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam on Monday, Green Visakha treasurer G. Kantarao said: “The organisation would continue its fight against government policies that, it alleged, were damaging natural resources and the environment.” He said the campaign would continue until permissions granted to data centres were cancelled, alleging that the projects would aggravate environmental and drinking water problems in Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Kantarao, invoking Bhagat Singh’s legacy, he called upon people to join the campaign to protect nature and the environment and oppose what he described as destruction in the name of development.

Green Visakha vice-president Raghu and Human Rights Forum leader Anuradha garlanded Bhagat Singh’s statue. Representatives K. Tirupathi Rao and Sudha, among others, participated in the programme.
