A Delhi court on Monday (September 28, 2026) sought responses from former BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and co-accused Vinod Tomar on an appeal filed by four women wrestlers against their acquittal in a sexual harassment case.
Special Judge Digvinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Court issued notices to the two. The matter will next be heard on October 9.
The wrestlers have challenged the trial court’s August 3, 2026, verdict acquitting Mr. Singh and Mr. Tomar of the charges of sexual harassment. The wrestlers have questioned the reasoning behind the verdict, alleging that the court relied on assumptions and overlooked important aspects of the prosecution’s evidence.
The case originated from complaints of sexual harassment lodged by six women wrestlers against Mr. Singh in 2023. Following the allegations, the Delhi Police registered an FIR and subsequently filed a chargesheet against him and Mr. Tomar in June 2023.
The police booked the two on charges of assault and use of criminal force against women with intent to outrage their modesty, sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation.
On May 10, 2024, the trial court framed charges of sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of women in connection with allegations made by five wrestlers against both Mr. Singh and Mr. Tomar.
However, in its August 3, 2026, judgment, the trial court acquitted the two, describing the case as “false and fabricated” and observing that it appeared to have a “political” motive.
