Pakistan will enter the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 looking for a much stronger campaign after missing out on the semi-finals in the previous edition.
Pakistan have often produced dramatic swings in form at major tournaments, which has helped create their long-standing reputation among cricket fans as an unpredictable side. On their day, they can challenge almost anyone, but consistency has often been the bigger question.
The 2027 World Cup gives Pakistan another opportunity to make a deep run, and their journey will begin against Afghanistan on 8 October in Tshwane.
Pakistan Will Look to Improve on Their 2023 World Cup Performance
Pakistan arrived at the 2023 ODI World Cup with significant expectations but could not reach the knockout stage.
They played nine matches, winning four and losing five. With eight points and a net run rate of -0.199, Pakistan finished fifth in the standings and missed the semi-finals.
Their tournament also showed how quickly their fortunes could change. Pakistan began with victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka before suffering four consecutive defeats. They then responded with wins over Bangladesh and New Zealand, but ultimately could not secure a semi-final place.
Their final match ended in a 93-run defeat against England at Eden Gardens.
Four years later, Pakistan will have another chance to challenge for the trophy.
Pakistan Start World Cup 2027 Against Afghanistan
Pakistan have been placed in Group A alongside India, Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A.
Their first match will be against Afghanistan on 8 October in Tshwane.
There will then be very little recovery time before one of the biggest matches in world cricket. Pakistan face arch-rivals India on 10 October at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
Pakistan’s third match comes against Qualifier A on 15 October in Bloemfontein.
They then travel to Harare to face co-hosts Zimbabwe on 19 October before completing their Group Stage campaign against defending champions Australia on 22 October in Paarl.
Pakistan Group Stage Schedule

| 10 October 2027 | 🇮🇳 India vs Pakistan 🇵🇰 | Johannesburg |
| 15 October 2027 | 🇵🇰 Pakistan vs Qualifier A | Bloemfontein |
| 19 October 2027 | 🇿🇼 Zimbabwe vs Pakistan 🇵🇰 | Harare |

Pakistan’s Potential Super 7 Schedule
Before looking at Pakistan’s Super 7 fixtures, there is one important point to understand.
For the schedule below, we are assuming that Pakistan will qualify for the Super 7 stage.
The ICC has pre-seeded Pakistan as A3. Therefore, the dates and venues attached to the A3 pathway have already been allocated.
However, being pre-seeded as A3 does not guarantee Pakistan a place in the Super 7. They still have to qualify through the Group Stage.
The top three teams from each group will advance, along with the better fourth-placed team across the two groups.
Assuming Pakistan qualify and retain their A3 position, they will play another six matches in the Super 7.
The opponents below are based on the ICC’s current pre-seeded allocations. The actual opponents could change if one or more of the pre-seeded teams fail to qualify.
Pakistan Super 7 Schedule
| Date | Match | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 26 October 2027 | 🇳🇿 New Zealand vs Pakistan 🇵🇰 | Gqeberha |
| 30 October 2027 | 🇵🇰 Pakistan vs England 🏴 | Victoria Falls |
| 3 November 2027 | 🇿🇦 South Africa vs Pakistan 🇵🇰 | Durban |
| 7 November 2027 | 🇮🇳 India vs Pakistan 🇵🇰 | Cape Town |
| 10 November 2027 | 🇵🇰 Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 | Bloemfontein |
| 13 November 2027 | 🇦🇺 Australia vs Pakistan 🇵🇰 | Bloemfontein |
If all the current pre-seeded teams qualify, Pakistan could face both India and Australia twice during the tournament — first in the Group Stage and then again in the Super 7.
The ICC has pre-seeded India as A1, Australia as A2, Pakistan as A3, England as AB4, New Zealand as B1, South Africa as B2 and Sri Lanka as B3.
If a non-seeded team qualifies ahead of a pre-seeded side, it will assume the Super 7 position of the team it replaces. Therefore, Pakistan’s A3 pathway can remain fixed while some of the opponents may change.
World Cup 2027 Semi-Finals and Final Dates
Every team will play six matches during the Super 7. Once that stage is complete, the top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
The team finishing first will face the fourth-placed team, while second and third will meet in the other semi-final.
| Stage | Date | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 🏏 Semi-Final 1 | 17 November 2027 | Cape Town |
| 🏏 Semi-Final 2 | 18 November 2027 | Tshwane |
| 🏆 Final | 21 November 2027 | Johannesburg |
If Pakistan qualify for the Super 7, finish among the top four and win their semi-final, they will play the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 Final on 21 November in Johannesburg.
Pakistan’s potential journey could therefore begin against Afghanistan on 8 October in Tshwane and continue all the way to the Final on 21 November in Johannesburg.
For a team known for producing unexpected turns at major tournaments, the path is now clear. The bigger question will be whether Pakistan can find the consistency needed to turn their talent into a deep World Cup run.
If Pakistan reach the Final, they will play a maximum of 13 matches — five in the Group Stage, six in the Super 7, one semi-final and the Final.
