The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed its joint meeting with Indian Premier League (IPL) stakeholders, scheduled for October 15 in Mumbai. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the decision on Tuesday, adding that the board would announce a revised date and venue later.
The meeting was scheduled to bring together franchise owners, team CEOs, broadcasters, and representatives of 13 host state associations to discuss league-related matters ahead of the new season. The 2027 edition will mark the IPL’s 20th season, while the upcoming season is the last edition before the mega auction.
PM Modi’s Asian Games Felicitation Prompts BCCI Meeting Postponement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to felicitate India’s men’s and women’s cricket teams for their gold-medal-winning performances at the 2026 Asian Games. The ceremony will take place at his official residence in New Delhi at 4:30 pm on October 15.
Senior BCCI officials will attend alongside the two teams, making it difficult for them to participate in the Mumbai meeting on the same day. In an official statement, Saikia confirmed the postponement and explained the reason behind the decision.
“The meeting with the IPL Franchise Owners, CEOs, IPL Hosting State Associations and Broadcasters, scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026, in Mumbai, has been postponed,” Saikia said.
“The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi. Accordingly, BCCI officials will be required to attend the felicitation ceremony.”
India finished fourth in the overall standings at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning 85 medals, including 21 gold. The contingent climbed from eighth place during the competition to match its fourth-place finish at the previous edition in Hangzhou.
Stakeholder Requests and Logistics for Rescheduled IPL Meeting
The meeting was scheduled for 6 pm at the Taj Santacruz in Mumbai. It was expected to include IPL franchise owners, team CEOs, broadcasters, and representatives of 13 state associations hosting matches.
Apart from the clash with the felicitation ceremony, the BCCI received requests from several stakeholders to postpone the meeting. The board agreed to the requests to allow more representatives to attend in person. Saikia addressed the requests in his communication to stakeholders.
“Additionally, requests have been received from various stakeholders seeking a postponement of the meeting. In view of the above, and with a view to facilitating maximum participation in person, it has been decided to postpone the meeting,” he added.
India Men’s T20I Team to Travel via Delhi Before Bengaluru Finale
The BCCI has yet to announce the revised date and venue for the meeting. Notably, the felicitation ceremony will also change India’s travel plans during their ongoing five-match T20I series against the West Indies.
India are scheduled to play the fourth T20I in Hyderabad on October 14, followed by the series finale in Bengaluru on October 17. Under the original itinerary, the team was due to travel directly from Hyderabad to Bengaluru after the fourth match.
The players will now travel to New Delhi on October 15 to attend the ceremony with Prime Minister Modi before heading to Bengaluru for the final T20I.
The revised itinerary adds a stop between the two matches, but the series finale remains scheduled for October 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
