Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ambati Rayudu sparked major debate after advising Yashasvi Jaiswal to leave Rajasthan Royals (RR) before the next IPL season. Rayudu stated that Jaiswal should join a new team where he can build his own identity instead of being overshadowed by Vaibhav Sooryavashi.
Rajasthan Royals advanced to Qualifier 2 after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs in the IPL 2026 Eliminator in New Chandigarh on Wednesday, May 27. During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo Timeout, Ambati Rayudu said that Yashasvi Jaiswal deserves a team where he can fully establish himself as the main match-winner.
“He needs to change his team because he cannot just bat with the guy and be overshadowed every single time because he’s a star in his own right. If he goes to another team, he will win games on his own,” Rayudu told ESPNcricinfo.

The Rajasthan Royals side posted a huge total of 244 runs. The bowling attack then delivered an impressive performance by dismissing Sunrisers Hyderabad for 196 runs in 19.2 overs. Jofra Archer took key wickets of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan.
The 47-run victory secured Rajasthan Royals a place in Qualifier 2. The team will face Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday, May 29, while Sunrisers Hyderabad were officially eliminated from IPL 2026.

Ambati Rayudu said that batting alongside a player like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can shift attention away from other batters because of his explosive batting style. Rayudu also stated that the senior batter in the pair must support the younger player’s success instead of treating it like a competition.
“And he needs that space and a platform because this guy will keep continuing to overshadow people. And it has to be a senior partner, along with him, who can deal with it. Be happy for him. Be happy for what is happening and not contest, not be in a contest with your non-striker or your striker. You can’t, you can’t compete with him,” Rayudu added.
