The Tamil Nadu government is in the process of developing a software powered by advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to expedite the building plan approval process, particularly in urban areas.

According to sources, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed officials to ensure building plan approvals are processed without delay wherever applications comply with the prescribed requirements. Accordingly, the government has been developing a new software by leveraging artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies. The new system is expected to process applications more efficiently and reduce the time taken for granting building plan approvals.

Further, measures are being taken to expedite the constitution of urban development authorities in Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Tiruchi and Madurai, sources said. The State government had notified urban development authorities for these cities in 2021, but they are yet to be formally constituted and made functional on the lines of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).

Following complaints about the poor condition of old tenements constructed by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, the State government is also taking measures to renovate and reconstruct around 28,000 dilapidated houses across the State, sources added.
