Pakistan 386 and 116 for 3 (Fazal 66*, Salman 21*, Taskin 1-22) need a further 152 runs against Bangladesh 413 and 240 for 9 dec (Shanto 87, Mominul 56, Hasan 3-52)

With one session to go, Pakistan debutant Abdullah Fazal holds the key in the first Test in Mirpur. Fazal was unbeaten on 66 at tea, batting alongside Salman Ali Agha who was not out on 21. Bangladesh would also consider themselves in a good position as they have taken three wickets, leaving the Test wide open in the last session. The hosts need seven scalps, the visitors require 152 more.

Imam-ul-Haque fell before lunch when he edged Taskin Ahmed’s away going delivery in the first over. Fazal went after Mehidy shortly afterwards, getting two boundaries off him, before he cracked three in a row off Nahid Rana. The first two fours went through the slip cordon, before Fazal drove the third through mid-off.

Mehidy however struck immediately afterwards, clean bowling Azan Awais for 15. The young opener had made a century in the first innings. Rana removed Shan Masood quickly too, when he had the Pakistan captain caught behind for two.

Fazal reached his half-century with an upper-cut off Ebadot Hossain. He is now the sixth Pakistani batter to get fifties in both innings of his debut Test.

Earlier in the day, the home side jumped into action in the fifth morning, adding 88 runs in 20 overs. They lost six wickets in the process, but Bangladesh made laudable approach to keep the game alive. The morning however began with Hasan Ali removing Mushfiqur Rahim, caught at mid-off for 22.

Hasan then took an excellent catch at the fine-leg boundary after Litton Das top edged a hook off Shaheen Afridi after making eleven runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck couple of fours and a six before Noman removed him for 24. It was his 100th wicket.

Shanto fell to Noman too, lbw for 87 while trying to play a reverse sweep. Shanto missed out on becoming only the fourth batter, after Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting and David Warner, to score twin hundreds in a Test on three occasions.

On the rain-hit fourth day, Bangladesh were slightly ahead of Pakistan. There was three hours of rain in the middle of the day. Bangladesh recovered from two early wickets after a 105-run third wicket stand between Shanto and Mominul Haque. The left-handed pair became only the third Bangladesh pair to add two century stands in the same Test. Mominul though reached his fifth half-century in a row, before falling to Afridi.
