The Rajasthan Royals have been the center of controversies in this edition of the IPL, and now the BCCI has not clearly indicated that they won’t let this slide away easily.
The Rajasthan Royals started the season on a high note and went on to win four matches of the season from the start of the competition. They won the initial matches with some remarkable dominance from their batters.
However, once the batters, especially the middle order, started to struggle with the bat, the Royals lost their winning streak and kept losing matches in a row. They now stand stuck on 12 points after having played 10 matches into the season.
Romi Bhinder’s humiliating incident in IPL 2026
The Rajasthan Royals’ first controversy erupted at the start of the season during a match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Rajasthan Royals at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati.
During the clash, team manager Romi Bhinder was seen using his mobile phone while sitting in the dugout with the players. He had the youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi beside him, who was also seen glaring at the phone screens.
Bhinder’s offense was that he, being a manager, is allowed to enter the ground with a phone but is not allowed to carry it out of the dressing room. He was then fined INR 1 lakh for the violations of the rules by the BCCI.
Riyan Parag’s vaping incident against Punjab Kings
The next incident occurred between the Rajasthan Royals and the Punjab Kings during their match at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. Parag was seen vaping inside the Rajasthan Royals dressing room, which was caught on camera.
After the incident, the BCCI found him guilty and reprimanded him under a Level 1 offense while also imposing a penalty of 25% of the match fees. He was also handed a demerit point for this misconduct, as it was severe work indiscipline.
The BCCI has punished both the individuals involved in the two incidents; however, they have not managed to punish the team. Since then, they have been reprimanded, and some protocols have been underway.
Maintain some decorum- BCCI secretary blasts Rajasthan Royals for indiscipline
From the sidelines of the announcement of the Women’s T20 World Cup squad, the officials from the BCCI stated that they have been exploring options about how to punish the teams that have violated the norms of the IPL.
Since then, the secretary of the BCCI has been adamant over the idea that the IPL’s image can never take a hit, and hence, action needs to be taken against these kinds of acts, while some measures should be enforced to maintain the decorum of the tournament.
“It is not just players or officials. As a team, they have to maintain some decorum so that the image of the IPL is never adversely affected. To ensure that we have to take a call and we will be taking some action,” said Devajit Saikia.
