Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suddenly emerged as one of the most dangerous teams in the IPL 2026 playoff race after producing a remarkable turnaround midway through the season. Written off by many after failing to register a win in their first six matches, KKR have now won four games in a row and reignited hopes of a late surge into the top four. Their latest triumph came against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where the visitors sealed a dominant eight-wicket victory.
The star of the evening was Finn Allen, whose unbeaten century completely dismantled the Delhi bowling attack during the chase of 143. Alongside Allen, Cameron Green also played an important supporting role with an unbeaten 33 as KKR chased down the target in just 14.2 overs. Earlier in the match, Green chipped in with the wicket of Nitish Rana while bowling a solitary over, further underlining his growing all-round impact for the side.
Cameron Green opens up on his bowling role in KKR
After the match, Green spoke confidently about his bowling fitness and made it clear that he is fully prepared to shoulder a bigger responsibility with the ball whenever required. The Australian all-rounder had entered the tournament under a carefully managed workload because of a lower-back injury concern and initially played only as a specialist batter in KKR’s first two matches.
Now gradually returning to full rhythm, Green revealed that he feels completely ready to bowl his full quota of overs in pressure situations. He explained that KKR’s balanced bowling combination has allowed the team management to rotate responsibilities smartly and avoid overburdening any single bowler.
Green praised left-arm all-rounder Anukul Roy for his valuable contributions in the middle overs and highlighted how that flexibility has helped him settle back into bowling smoothly. According to Green, the presence of multiple bowling options allows him to adapt according to the match situation, whether that means bowling in the powerplay, middle overs, or at the death.
“I’m 100% ready to bowl four overs. I think just the makeup of our team, we have Anukul Roy, who has been exceptional for us, bowling one or two overs. That means I can only bowl two or three overs, which has been a really big help,” said Green as quoted by ANI.
The Australian also looked relaxed while discussing the pressure surrounding his auction price and role within the squad. Despite being one of the high-profile overseas signings, Green has quietly become an important figure in KKR’s resurgence through his composure and versatility. In his debut season for the franchise, he has already scored 232 runs and picked up four wickets, contributing in multiple departments when the team needed stability the most.
“Having a left-arm all-rounder to potentially bowl through the middle and I can bowl in the power play and potentially the death or through the middle as well. So, I think it’s just the makeup of our team that we’ve got six guys that we can go to and, obviously, Anukul and I are the all-rounders there. So, we just help each other out and bowl our four overs,” added Green.

KKR’s playoff hopes back on track
KKR’s dramatic revival has significantly changed the complexion of the IPL 2026 points table. Just a few weeks ago, they were rooted near the bottom and appeared headed for elimination. However, four consecutive victories have lifted the defending champions to seventh position and brought them firmly back into playoff contention.
With momentum now on their side, KKR know that the equation is straightforward — keep winning and qualification will remain in their control. Historically, teams reaching the 16-point mark in a 10-team IPL season have comfortably secured a playoff berth, and KKR still have enough matches left to reach that target.
The emphatic victory over Delhi also boosted their net run rate, which could become crucial later in the competition if multiple teams finish level on points. More importantly, the team now looks settled with contributions coming from both senior stars and younger players.
