Delhi cabinet clears new EV policy: Only electric autos from 2027, e-two-wheelers from 2028
Only electric auto-rickshaws will be registered in Delhi from January 1

NEW DELHI: Only electric auto-rickshaws will be registered in Delhi from January 1, 2027, while the registration of new petrol and CNG two-wheelers will end from April 1, 2028, under the capital’s new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy. The Delhi Cabinet approved the capital’s new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, which is likely to come into effect from July 1, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.Under the first year of Delhi’s new EV Policy, buyers of electric two-wheelers will receive a subsidy of Rs 30,000, while purchasers of electric three-wheelers will be eligible for a subsidy of Rs 50,000, officials said, as cited by PTI.The policy also does not provide any subsidy for hybrid vehicles. The Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026–2030, lays out a roadmap to tackle air pollution and accelerate the adoption of clean mobility in the national capital. With vehicular emissions accounting for nearly 23 per cent of the city’s air pollution, the policy aims to speed up the transition to electric vehicles while strengthening the infrastructure and ecosystem needed to support their widespread adoption. The new policy builds on Delhi’s first EV Policy, introduced in August 2020 with a three-year tenure that ended in August 2023 and has since been extended. According to officials, the updated framework expands on the earlier policy by introducing measures to further reduce vehicular pollution and fast-track the shift to cleaner, more sustainable transportation.
