Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, widely regarded as the most prominent teenage talent in global cricket currently, experienced a notable setback during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Sooryavanshi, who holds the Orange Cap in the T20 league, was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the aforementioned match. This dismissal was orchestrated by Hyderabad debutant Praful Hinge, whose strategy was executed with remarkable precision. Observing Sooryavanshi’s initial failure of the season, former New Zealand bowler Simon Doull cautioned the Rajasthan cricketer to be vigilant regarding individuals primarily motivated by financial gain from his burgeoning career.
Sooryavanshi has emerged as a significant rising star within Indian cricket. The commencement of the IPL 2026 season has already resulted in his securing several brand endorsements. His future trajectory, particularly within white-ball cricket, appears exceptionally promising. Consequently, Doull has advised him to exercise prudence concerning those who may seek to exploit his success.
During an interview on Cricbuzz, Doull articulated his concerns, stating, “This serves as a cautionary note. He has already attained a degree of celebrity. Should his progression continue, which we collectively hope it will, he is poised to remain a prominent figure, an Indian cricketing icon, particularly in the white-ball format. The individuals with whom one associates become crucial. He would undoubtedly have attracted attention from every management firm, each endeavoring to secure contractual arrangements on his behalf.”
Doull further elaborated, “While management companies and their representatives are ostensibly tasked with safeguarding your interests, a considerable number prioritize their own financial benefits. Their primary query often revolves around the potential monetary yield from this young athlete, both for themselves and their respective organizations. This represents my principal apprehension regarding management entities globally.”
These formative years are critical for Sooryavanshi’s cricketing journey. Therefore, Doull expressed apprehension for the 15-year-old, issuing a warning against collaborating with unsuitable managers whose focus might solely reside in their own profits, rather than his athletic development.
Doull conveyed, “Their primary concern typically centers on their potential earnings, rather than considering how best to support this young individual or foster his career progression. It is crucial to avoid over-committing him at this juncture to ensure career longevity. Should his performance decline, these managers will invariably seek out the next emerging talent, as is characteristic of their profession.”
He concluded by advising, “It is imperative to be judicious about one’s associations. If he benefits from a supportive family and upbringing, he should navigate these challenges effectively. However, vigilance against exploitative influences is paramount.”
